About DecodeLabs Ltd
Why BioDecode exists, and how we approach privacy-first genomic analysis.
Why We Created BioDecode
Personal genomics is becoming normal. Millions of people can now access their DNA data at a fraction of what it once cost. But when it comes to analyzing that data, most services ask you to upload it to servers you don’t control.
We’ve seen how fragile that model can be. Companies get acquired. Policies change. Data collected under one promise can later become an asset - bought, sold, or leveraged in ways users never agreed to. Storing highly sensitive biological information in centralized databases also creates long-term risk, from breaches to future uses no one originally anticipated.
That risk never felt right to us.
DNA isn’t like a password. You can’t reset it. It’s permanent, uniquely identifying, and connected to your family. If privacy matters anywhere, it matters here.
BioDecode is built differently.
It runs entirely on your own computer. Your DNA file never leaves your device. There are no uploads, no hidden data collection, no silent retention policies. You can even run it fully offline.
With BioDecode, your DNA stays where it belongs: with you.
How We Work
BioDecode is developed as practical software, not as a black-box recommendation engine. We focus on clear reporting, reproducible local processing, and transparent language about what a variant match can and cannot mean.
Our workflow is straightforward: parse a user-provided genome file locally, match against current ClinVar records, then generate a readable report that keeps uncertainty visible. We intentionally avoid hidden scoring systems and avoid claims that exceed the evidence attached to each record.
We also design the product around operational clarity. Customers should understand where updates come from, how licensing works, and where to find support without guessing. This is why the guide, legal pages, and release notes are kept public and continuously revised when behavior changes.
We do not sell genomic data, run ad-targeting profiles, or require cloud upload for normal use. The desktop app is meant to stay useful even for users who prefer limited connectivity and strict control over personal files.
